Small Change from Sunday School Makes Big Change for Zambian Children
Once a month during worship, children from Covenant Presbyterian, Racine, WI bring their coins to the large basket on the communion table as their donation to the Alliance for Children Everywhere's Change for Children Program.
ACE, www.childreneverywhere.org is a U.S. based Christian charity that provides group homes for children in Zambia who have been orphaned, often due to HIV/AIDS. Change for Children is ACE's program to educate Sunday schools and invite them to give their coins for Zambia. Each Sunday school child receives a "katumba" drawstring pouch made of African fabric and each class receives a beautiful basket made by village women in Zambia.
Children (and now many adults) at Covenant have participated in the Change for Children program for four years. Last summer, 11 from the congregation visited Zambia and lived in ACE's group home with 38 infants and toddlers. They learned first hand how well ACE cares for hundreds of children and how far they stretch the dollars received.
This is a mission project for Sunday school children with no pledge or commitment required. Simply send whatever is collected. For more information contact the Rev. Victoria Millar, co-pastor at Covenant Church, vmillar@bizwi.rr.com
