Doing ministry within an immigrant community
Presbytery supported Espiritu de Esperanza Fellowship serves the Latino community in the Beloit area. Diverse needs and a variety of gifts have led this group to become ecumenical, supported by both Lutheran and Presbyterian churches, and to do ministry in relationship with many other organizations and denominations working with the Latino community.
Through this network, the ministry provides bereavement support to Latino families unable to go home to bury their dead; creates access to an organic farm and quality food; and advocates for immigrant rights and better relationships with local government. Espiritu publishes a bi-monthly Latino newspaper; broadcasts a weekly radio program; and hosts the mobile Mexican Consulate twice a year to provide documents to hundreds of Mexican citizens.
Since the beginning this ministry has provided for the gathering of an ecumenical worshipping community every Sunday, led by Lutheran and Presbyterian Pastors.
